About Masking Through Blackness:

This zine aims to be a conversational guide, toolkit and love letter for Black people that mask and take COVID/virus precautions. We face unique issues like issues with mask fitting, (hair)styling and access to resources. These topics are discussed with other Black people but not are easily found in most COVID resources. This zine centers their discussion in a more accessible, sharable way.

The main sections are "Mask Fitting and Fixes!", "Self Expression & Hairstyling with Masks!" and "Dreaming, Masking & Staying Grounded". Sabrina draws on her experiences of masking as a Black disabled person and love of mask & COVID resource distribution. The pages are full of detailed virus safety information along with mask comparison charts, vibrant illustrations and styling examples from the author. Essays at the end of the zine explore how we can respond to the social crises like fascism, racism and ableism to create a more liberated and community care centered world.

44 pages, half letter size, B&W.

This B&W version is tailored for people that want to print it for mutual aid distribution. By getting a copy for mutual aid, you agree to these terms for distribution below.

If you are non-Black, please pay on the higher end of sliding scale ($5-25). For every copy sold, I will list a free community copy for Black people. Also consider buying another copy for a Black person in your life!
